Boy's Room Makeover Reveal!
So most everyone who reads this blog is a friend on Facebook and has already seen the reveal, so this will just be a little reminder of how much I love the boys' room.
Okay, I'll just admit it now: I like it so much that I even try to spend time in there to hang out and I DEFINITELY spend more time cleaning it than any other room in the house.
Go figure!
For anyone who HASN'T seen the reveal, let's start with a couple before pictures, shall we?
BEFORE
Not for a boys' room!
Finally I decided that enough is enough!
After thoroughly obsessing researching boys' rooms on Pinterest, I finally came up with a theme and a color scheme I liked and that I knew my 3 year old would like.
I went with a warm grey for the three purple walls and I will tell you right now that I have no idea what the color was named, so don't even ask. I just grabbed 15 million paint chips and narrowed it down. I can tell you, however, that I bought Glidden 2-in-1 so I didn't have to prime.
I hate priming. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Then it came time for the fake paneling.
I looked at some blogs of people who pioneered the subject before me, but I kinda just wanted it done, so I did no prep work whatsoever. And because I did not, I have some scratches from a 1-year-old that show the gross fake paneling.
So I guess I should have taken the time.
TIP TIME!!!!
So here's my tip for you:
Paint the entire wall your base color, then tape off every other board for your stripes.
For example, I painted the grey first, and when it was totally dry, I painted the blue stripes.
And here's a freebie for you that will change your life:
Don't worry about accidentally getting your dark blue on the beautiful grey you just painted not too long ago. In fact, let your little mistakes dry for 30 minutes to an hour. Then simply wipe off with Clorox wipes.
No, I'm not kidding. I don't know why I thought of it, but when I really messed up and got a big splotch of blue on the grey but found it an hour later, I panicked. I grabbed a wipe and it came right off without leaving a trace on the grey.
It was magic!
From then on I didn't worry about mistakes, and I made plenty of them, believe me.
They just wiped right off and the wall looked pretty perfect to me!
Now that it was all painted, I got to decorate!
AFTER
Notice how there's no dresser? The one they had before was an antique that hardly opened.
So my solution was to flip some mini bookcases my hubby made so they face out and to put crates in them for the clothes. I got 2 blue ones for the 3-year-old and 2 lime ones for the 1-year-old for $4 each at Staples at their back to school sale.
The curtain in the window I made myself with canvas on sale from Jo-Ann's and some fabric fusion tape, and the one in the closet was cheap cotton fabric from Wal-Mart.
I believe altogether they cost about $17.
I made the stick antlers from Play-do and baked it on 250 for about 10 minutes. It was so thick, though that it just had to air dry for a day after. I had the wood craft plaque already and hammered some little nails into it so the Play-do had something to hold onto.

I bought poster frames for a few dollars at Wal-mart to display some of my 3-year-old's art work, and it turned out awesome.
I painted their initials on some scrap wood lying around the farm.
The bear mount was an old, falling apart "stuffie" that my boys didn't care a shred about.
However, I still felt like Sid from Toy Story when I decapitated it with other stuffed animals present, watching its stuffing falling onto the floor all around me.
As I said, one boy has blue crates and one has green. I even got tiny ones for socks and underwear at the Dollar Store!
Like the wire basket for diapers? Yeah, that was salvaged from a broken freezer in our basement. I saw the same one at TJ Maxx for like $20. Psh.
Speaking of TJ Maxx, I finally figured out stuffed animal storage with a cute shoe organizer and hung it in the closet.
I made the bunting out of scrapbook paper and twine I already had.
The blue lamp was at Wal-mart for $7, and it matched perfectly!
The bookshelf idea I stole borrowed from Pinterest.
I bought a rain gutter at Home Depot for $10 and end pieces for $1 a piece or so.
I sniped the gutter into pieces, popped the end pieces on, and viola! $14 book shelves.
**EDIT: The gutters were cheap, but they didn't last very long. The boys pulled them down and out of shape, so if I had to do this again, I would use spice racks from Amazon or Ikea.**

All in all, I had a lot of fun reinventing the boys' room.
They liked being in their room to look at books in the reading nook or hiding under the bed from each other. They usually don't even mind cleaning up!
Fabulous Katie. Love it!
